design process
If you know exactly what you want, we can simply build it for you, but we can also work with you to design something that suits your needs, your taste and your budget. We produce detailed drawings so that you can be sure of what you’ll get if you decide to go ahead, and there is plenty of opportunity to make adjustments to the design before building commences. Construction takes place in the workshop so that installation can normally be completed within a few days.
a choice of woods and finishes
If the piece is to be painted, furniture grade MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is the best and the cheapest material. Where a more classical look is required, this can be combined with solid wood mouldings (click here to see an example). Veneers are available in a wide range of woods, from White Oak to Black Walnut, and are beautiful in both contemporary and traditional designs (see an example). Our suppliers are the best in the country, and grain matching comes as standard. A wide variety of sustainable solid woods are also available. A combination of materials is often popular (see an example).
A range of fine finishes are available from traditional shellacs (see the oak desk and the walnut doors) to a modern hardwearing varnish (see the pine table).

“... it’s exactly what we were looking for and fits perfectly. The designs were great, and included some additional ideas and improvements that we had not thought of. I would highly recommend Heyking Woodwork and be happy for them to work on any future projects we have.”
